Gary McAllister MBE was born on December 25th, 1964 in Motherwell, Scotland. Consistently classy, this experienced Scottish international enjoyed a long career at a variety of top clubs, turning in powerful performances characterised by an expert array of passing as he provided the creative spark from the centre of the pitch. He began his playing days at Motherwell before Leicester City signed him in 1985 where he helped carve out chances in a Foxes team including Alan Smith. He then moved on to Leeds United where he won a championship medal in 1991/92. He left Leeds for Coventry in 1996 and his career seemed to be moving to a close when, in the summer of 2000, he was surprisingly signed by Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier - and over the next two seasons, his free-transfer move would prove to be one of the shrewdest and most influential signings in Premiership history.
Though serving for a relatively short time at Anfield, he played an integral role in the team that won a treble of cups in 2000 & 2001. His ability to play central midfield or on either wing made him a useful weapon in the armoury of then manager Gérard Houllier, who described McAllister as his most inspirational signing. Gary was also known for his ability with the dead-ball and frequently demonstrated that skill as he presided over most of Liverpool's set pieces that season. Gary McAllister was also a Scotland international and is a member of the Scotland Football Hall of Fame, having won over 50 caps.
