Lorik Cana is a midfielder playing for Sunderland, having signed in the summer of 2009.
Lorik left his homeland of Kosovo at the age of seven, when his father signed for Swiss club Montreux. Lorik eventually became a professional with Paris St Germain, where he was a member of the team that won the French Cup in 2004, then moved to Olympique Marseille, before moving to Sunderland in the summer of 2009.
His tenacious, tough-tackling style, and obvious leadership qualities, soon won him the Sunderland captaincy, and Lorik has embraced that responsibility with enthusiasm.
Leading by example, Lorik is an inspirational captain who encourages his colleagues to raise their game. In Sunderland's victory over Liverpool in October, Lorik ended the game in central defence, a position he has occupied at international level.
Fluent in several languages, Lorik was eligible to play for Switzerland, France, and Albania, but chose his homeland and made his international debut aged19 in 2003. Since then he has amassed 41 caps to date, scoring one goal.
