Matthew Bird is a young defender who graduated through the youth ranks at Grimsby Town to earn a full contract.
Matthew is a strong and commanding defender who plays at left back and has also been used in the centre of defence. He made his Football League debut when he came on as a substitute against Rotherham United in April 2008.
Matthew has made one further appearance in the first team as a sub and has played regularly for the reserves. He has been on the bench for the senior team a couple of times this season and was loaned out to Unibond League club Frickley Athletic in November 2009 to gain further experience.
