Scott Parker was born on October 13th, 1980 in Lambeth, London. A graduate of the FA's national school of excellence at Lilleshall, he signed for Charlton Athletic and made his debut as a substitute against Bury in the First Division, signing his first professional contract with the club two months later. Once established in the first team, Scott became the linchpin of Charlton's midfield, combining tenacious tackling with an ability to carry the ball quickly from defence to attack and play telling passes, creating many chances for his team-mates. It was not long before England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson gave Parker his international debut on 16th November 2003 against Denmark.
Scott eventually left the Valley in January 2004 to join Chelsea for a fee of £10m, initially as cover for Claude Makélélé and Frank Lampard, but played most of his games at Stamford Bridge as a winger. At the end of the 2003-04 season Parker was named as the PFA Young Player of the Year but was ultimately, after a troublesome injury, sold in summer 2005 to Newcastle United for a fee of £6.5m. Nevertheless, he ended his association with Chelsea with a Premiership champion's medal and a League Cup winner's medal. Since joining Newcastle, Parker has once again become a first-team regular in the Premiership and in 2006 was named United's new captain by manager Glenn Roeder. Scott Parker won his three England caps while playing for three different clubs.
