Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has revealed that team-mate Cesc Fabregas was “determined” to secure a move to Barcelona during the summer transfer window.
Barca pursued the Gunners captain for months, but the London club refused to do business with the Catalan giants.
Fabregas, 23, left the Spanish club when he was just 16 and has since expressed a desire to eventually return to the Nou Camp.
And Vermaelen has explained that the Spainaird “more or less confessed” to the rest of the Arsenal squad that he wanted to leave the Emirates.
"Cesc carries Barcelona in the heart, in his DNA," the Belgium international told talkSPORT.
"Therefore it is impossible for him to forget about them.
"He was determined to go to Barça last summer, he more or less confessed it in the dressing room. But that is passed history.
"Now is 100 per cent ready to put his all in to a great season with Arsenal."
