Turkish winger Arda Turan wants to join Arsenal, according to his agent.

The Galatasaray star has been linked with a move away from him homeland in the past, and was expected to leave last summer when the Istanbul club finished fifth in the Super Lig.

The 22-year-old produced some fine individual displays despite the poor team performances from his side, ending the season with seven goals from various midfield positions.

His versatility would be an added bonus for any side, and Arsene Wenger has previously moved for the star of Euro 2008. It is thought that a £13 million bid would be needed to complete a deal.

Agent Ahmet Bulut said: "In the summertime Arsenal made contact regarding him, but the club did not want to sell. He is interested in working under Arsene Wenger because he is very good at working with young players, and Arda wants to work in England.

"He is now the new captain of Galatasaray, so I don’t think he will be sold in January. However, I do think he will be sold in July."

Liverpool are also reported to be interested, with Benitez looking to add some goals to his side from the midfield area. Andrea Dossena and Andrei Voronin could make way for a bid to come in.

“At this moment in time I have no contact with any clubs," Bulut concluded.
