Arsenal set a new unbeaten record of 43 games with their 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers, with second half goals from Thierry Henry, Jose Reyes and Francesc Fabregas, to return to the top of the Premiership.

But their achievement was promptly played down by Arsene Wenger, who said: "I don't think a lot about the record. I just think about winning each game. I'm very pleased with the quality of our game and the quality of the goals we scored."

Thierry Henry, who inspired Arsenal on the night, added: "Everyone talks about the record but we are looking to retain our Premiership title. We know we'll lose one day but we want to keep the run going as long as possible."

Bill Kenwright says that the sale of Wayne Rooney, if it happens, will be down to manager David Moyes. The Everton chairman believes the exit of Rooney, the subject of £20 million bids from Manchester United and Newcastle United, is by no means a foregone conclusion.

"Wayne Rooney is my favourite player in the world and I would love nothing more than to see him remain at Goodison Park," said Kenwright. "However, it is up to David as to whether he stays or goes. We do not need to sell him and I hope we don't."

The 'bidding war' between the two Uniteds seems to have stirred up a hornets nest, particularly at St James' Park. Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy says he will not sit on the bench if Rooney arrives.

Bellamy said: "I'm not prepared to sit on the bench if they do sign him and won't do it. I love this club but if he signs I will have to think about my future."

But Bellamy's reaction has incurred the wrath of Sir Bobby Robson who, on hearing his striker's comments, said: "He should shut up and honour his contract.

"At the moment, he is doing too much talking. He has signed a contract to play for Newcastle United and he should honour that contract like everyone else has to. He has said something in public and he I'm answering him in public. He should just get on with playing."

Morten Gamst Pedersen is finally set to complete a move from Tromso to Blackburn Rovers. The 22-year-old Norwegian international winger, who has agreed a £1.4million move, has been a long-time target for Graeme Souness and is set for a Thursday medical before becoming a Rovers' player.

Juninho has completed his move to Celtic. The 31-year-old World Cup winner negotiated a release from his Boro contract in favour of a two-year deal at Parkhead and passed a medical last week. He could make his debut for Celtic in Sunday's old firm game against Rangers if his work permit comes through in time.
