Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge has emerged as a somewhat surprising summer target for Arsenal, it has been claimed.

This season Sturridge has enjoyed his most sustained period action at Stamford Bridge since joining the Blues from Manchester City in 2009, and has scored 10 goals in 25 appearances.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Sturridge is growing tired of being played out of position by Andre Villas-Boas and is considering his options at Chelsea.

The 22-year-old sees himself as a central striker, and is said to be unhappy at being deployed on the right-wing, as has often been the case this term.

Arsenal, it is claimed, are monitoring the situation of Sturridge, and Arsene Wenger's chief scout Steve Rowley has reportedly already started making plans for a move for the England international.

The Gunners have also been linked with Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou who is currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
