Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel has welcomed news of possible interest from Arsenal.
The Dutch international has built a reputation as one of the top centre backs in european football, and now the youngster is keen to make the step-up to one of the top divisions in the continent.
At 21-years-old, van der Wiel has plenty of time to mature into one of the finest defenders in the world, although he is keen to make a statement this summer at the World Cup and put himself in the shop window for a possible transfer.
"To develop I need to play well at the World Cup. That’s really all that counts now," van der Wiel told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
Italian side Juventus are also interested in the Eredivisie star, who has scored three times in 24 appearances for the Amsterdam side so far this season. It is a move to the Premier League that catches his eye however.
"Of course it’s nice to read that Arsenal are interested. I consider myself a good fit for the Premier League," he continued.
"Robin van Persie has told me many good stories about the Premier League, Arsenal and Mr Wenger, maybe he can put in a good word for me."
