Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly weighing up a summer bid for Borrussia Dortmund striker Mohamed Zidan.
The highly-rated 28-year-old showed the English public what he can do with the opening goal in Egypt's 3-1 defeat at Wembley last night, and Arsenal are thought to be the front-runners for his signature.
Manchester United and Barcelona are also said to be interested in the Schwarzgelben striker, who joined Dortmund from fellow German side Hamburg in 2008.
A Bundesliga veteran, Zidan joined Werder Bremen from Danish side Midtjylland in 2005. His unproductive spell with the German giants was forgotten during a loan spell at Mainz 05, with the striker shooting to prominence thanks to 13 goals in 15 league games.
A fee in the region of €4.5 million was paid by HSV in the summer of 2007, and a year later he was part of a cash-plus-player swap deal involving Mladen Petrić that saw the Egyptian international move to his current club at the Westfalenstadion.
It's his recent international form that has seen an increase in interest, with Zidan bagging a brace in the Confederations Cup defeat to Brazil and the second goal in an African Cup of Nations semi-final victory over Algeria. His goal against England yesterday has only added to the growing opinion that Zidan can play against the best.
His father recently waded into the debate about which clubs are trying to sign Zidan, saying: "Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona have talked to Mohamed's agent."
Fellow Egyptian striker Mido also gave his glowing reference to the forward, and backed the Gunners to make a move for the fellow Pharaoh. "He has done very well and is getting more and more attention," said the West Ham forward.
"Zidan could be successful in England if he goes to a good footballing club. He needs to be in a team that plays good football, beautiful football like Arsenal."
