Arsenal will wait until the summer to make their move for French forward Loic Remy.
The Gunners have been linked with a string of strikers during the January transfer window, but Arsenal scout and former midfielder Gilles Grimandi suggested the club would wait until the summer before making their move to bolster the forward line.
Nice striker Remy appears to be the new number one target at the Emirates, and Grimandi admitted that the 23-year-old striker was being monitored by the north London club.
“We know the potential of Remy. He has one of the greatest potentials in France and perhaps even in Europe over the next five years," said the Frenchman, who is currently the Gunners' chief scout in his homeland.
"He has a physical standard that is outside the usual, but we are looking for a player who will enhance our strength very quickly," Grimandi continued telling Europe 1 radio station.
Remy started his career with Lyon, and after a brief loan spell at Lens made the reported €8 million switch to Les Aiglons. The club record transfer has shone at the Stade Municipal du Ray, but a recent spitting row between players and fans made the striker an immediate transfer target.
“I wet my shirt for people who spit at me; it’s unacceptable,” he told RTL.
A change of heart followed however, and six days later Remy said: “I have no reason to leave, I'll finish the season with Nice.”
The incident has led to much media speculation about the long-term future of Remy at the Ligue 1 side however, unsurprising when you consider his rise through the French national ranks. Remy represented the Under 21 side nine times, and gained his first senior cap for Les Bleus against Nigeria last year.
Former club Lyon are reportedly interested in taking the striker back to the Stade Gerland, but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has shown in the past that he can bring the finest young French talent back to England. The Gunners might be forced into a summer move as interest grows in this precocious talent.
