Arsenal Wenger is set to try strengthen his strike force in January by testing Wolfsburg with a £15million bid for Edin Dzeko.

The Arsenal boss has vowed to add another proven goalscorer to his team after Robin Van Persie was ruled out for up to five months with an ankle injury.

Dzeko has been impressive for club and country, scoring 13 goals already for Wolfsburg this season. The powerful forward could be seen as a potential replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor who left the club in the summer.

However, Wenger may have to rely on rivals Manchester United to dump the German side out of the Champions League next week for the deal to go through.

After Arsenal’s defeat to Chelsea at the weekend defender Bacary Sagna also called for the Gunners to solve their attacking problems.

Sagna told the Daily Mail: “Robin van Persie’s absence is weighing heavily on us and we need to find a solution.

“There was too much of a gap between ourselves and Chelsea.

“They were better in the individual battles and kept the ball and passed it better than we did.”
