Arsenal have joined rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Corinthians left back Dodo.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to have the first option to buy the 18-year-old but the priority is due to expire on midnight February 15th.

Ferguson has had a network of scouts following the left back for the last two years and is now weighing up a move for the Corinthians star as he looks to strengthen his defence in the summer.

However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also said to be monitoring the situation and may attempt to snatch the talented defender from under the noses of their rivals.

United have already locked horns with Arsenal  in the January transfer window over the signing of Fulham defender Chris Smalling who eventually opted for a move to Old Trafford.

Dodo is valued at around £8 million and if he was to sign for the Red Devils he would join fellow Brazilians Rodrigo Possebon, Fabio and Rafael Da Silva, and Anderson.

The starlet has caught the eye of several Europe’s top clubs and is now competing for the left back spot with idol Roberto Carlos in the Brazilian national side.
