Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reported to be lining up a £10 million move for Rafael Van der Vaart in January.

Wenger has been a long term admirer of Van der Vaart and believes the player’s excellent passing ability would suit Arsenal’s style of play.

The Real Madrid midfielder could soon follow the likes of Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder out the door, if Arsenal can agree a deal for the 26-year-old in the next transfer window.

Since the return of Brazilian Kaka from injury, Van der Vaart has once again had to be content with a place on the bench, and has now stated that he would consider a move away from the Bernabeu.

Van der Vaart said: "If an opportunity emerges I would look at it because I need games.

"For the moment nobody has told me I am leaving. I am now back on the bench but I will again have a chance to show my quality." The Dutchman must now decide whether to move clubs in January if he is to retain place in Holland's World Cup squad in South Africa next summer.
