Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign highly-rated Watford goalkeeper Scott Loach.
The England Under 21 international has been linked with Spurs over the previous months, but now the News of the World reports that the Gunners are monitoring the player with a view to taking him from under the nose of their North London rivals.
Loach has been in impressive form for the Hornets, building a reputation as one of the best stoppers outside the Premier League with consistent performances. Spurs have had the player watched, with coach Kevin Bond making the trip to Vicarage Road for a first hand look.
Watford aren't helped in their fight to keep the keeper by their current financial constraints, with the club nearly falling into administration last week. Manager Malky Mackay is desperate to keep hold of his star man, but if offers are placed on the table the Hertfordshire club may struggle to turn down the cash.
The 21-year-old has made 11 appearances for the Young Lions under Stuart Pearce, most notably in the final of the Under 21 European Championships against Germany. Loach is seen by many as a future England keeper at senior level, and expects to make a move to the Premier League at some point in the future.
"I am confident that I will play in the Premier League - I think my time will come eventually, but I just have to keep playing," said Loach. The Nottingham-born No.1 seems well aware of the growing interest, and his omission over a future move to the Premier League coupled with increasing interest from Premier League clubs could spark a bidding war in January.
