Nicky Shorey thinks West Brom are showing signs of returning to their best form, which couldn't come at a better time, with the Black Country derby against Wolves just around the corner.

The Baggies surrendered a two-goal lead to draw away at Sunderland on Saturday, but the 30-year-old defender is confident the side is on the up.

"I think it was one of our best performances of late," he told the club's official website. "We passed the ball really well and caused them a lot of problems, to be honest, especially in the first half. And in the second we were quite comfortable.

"It felt more like us. It felt more like the way we normally play with the way we were knocking the ball about.

"We see all the time in training that the lads have quality on the ball and we showed that at Sunderland, which bodes well for the future."

Roy Hodgson's players now enter the international break with half an eye on Sunday 16 October, and Shorey has urged his teammates to seize their opportunity of defeating Wolves - who have lost their last four games in the Barclays Premier League.

"I played against Wolves last year and it's a big game for everyone concerned," he continued. "Like always, we really want to win the game.

"It's a tough division, it's the best league in the world and it's exciting, so it's hard to keep clean sheets and play well. But that's what our ultimate goal is."
