European champions Barcelona want to bring Arsenal captain Robin van Persie to the Nou Camp during the summer transfer window, it has been claimed.

The Holland international has been in free-scoring form this season, and has netted 29 times in 33 appearances for club and country.

Van Persie has 18 months left to run on his contract at the Emirates Stadium, and his future with the north London club has been the subject of frequent speculation in recent months.

And, according to The Mirror, whispers in Spain suggest Barca are interested in signing Van Persie when the transfer window opens again at the end of the season.

Arsene Wenger has recently hailed the 28-year-old as 'world class' and, naturally, is desperate to retain his services for as long as possible.

The Arsenal manager is also likely to be keen to avoid a repeat of the situation which saw Samir Nasri leave the club for Manchester City last summer.

The Frenchman refused to sign a new contract with the Gunners, who were forced to cash-in to avoid the prospect of losing him for free a year later.

And, should Barca formalise their reported interest in Van Persie, it will surely pose a dilemma for Wenger, unless his captain commits his future to the club before then.
