Having both penned new deals at the club within the last seven days, Gary Megson says Kevin Davies and Matty Taylor must now focus on what they do best – scoring goals and helping Bolton Wanderers win matches.
The pair, who netted 22 goals between them last term, have not hit the target for the
Trotters since April and the Wanderers’ boss wants that to change.
And Megson is backing
Davies and
Taylor to get back on the goals trail, starting against
Hull City at the KC Stadium tomorrow.
Megson said, “The fact that they have both signed new deals for the football club is great.
“And I’m looking forward to them getting back to what they were doing right the way through last season, until the last eight or nine games.”
Taylor’s last goal came against
Chelsea at Stamford Bridge over four months ago, while Davies’ most recent success came a week before in the 4-1 victory against
Middlesbrough, and Megson added, “We need them to start picking up again and scoring more goals.”
Hull narrowly avoided relegation after a poor second half of last season, but Megson believes the Tigers are more equipped to last the pace this time around.
“Last year everybody was saying
Stoke would be relegated from day one and they weren’t – and I don’t think Hull will be either,” added Megson, whose side won 1-0 at the KC Stadium last term.
“They played well at Chelsea last week with one up front in
Caleb Folan and in midfielder
Seyi Olofinjana they have a big, strong lad – so they will be a physical, well-organised side. I thought they were a little unlucky at Stamford Bridge.”
