Having made their first signing of the summer with the capture of Portsmouth midfielder Sean Davies on a free transfer, manager Gary Megson is now set to turn his attentions to West Brom full back Paul Robinson and Swansea’s midfield playmaker Ferrie Bodde.

A deal for Robinson could go through if the Baggies lower their price tag of £1 million, while the Swans are holding out for around £4 million for Dutchman Bodde.

Swansea revealed they had rejected a £2.5 million bid for the 27-year-old at the end of last week, but the situation was thrown into more confusion after Bodde failed to return to England from the Netherlands for the club’s first day of pre-season training while he recovers from knee surgery.

Disgruntled new Swans’ boss Paolo Sousa said: “Ferrie is a great player but he needs to be a better professional.

“He needs to have more respect for his colleagues, for the club, for myself and especially for himself as a player and a professional.”

However, despite the player’s absence, Sousa insists Bodde remains firmly in his plans. “We want to see how his knee is after the operation and to integrate him into the squad,” he added.

“We believe Ferrie can play to a very high standard and we want him playing for us. I would welcome him back to be part of the squad – he is a talented player who can get us results.

“We want everybody happy and committed to the club but if you don’t have it you try to find a solution.”
