Burton have handed former Stoke winger Jimmy Phillips a two-year contract after the youngster impressed during pre-season.

The 19-year-old put pen to paper after proving his worth to manager Paul Peschisolido, while on trial over the summer, having failed to make an impression at the Britannia Stadium.

The Brewers manager told the club's official website: "Jimmy has signed for us now and we are delighted to have him here. He has shown some great technical ability and is only a young lad. He has still got a lot to learn, but has looked fantastic for us throughout pre-season, both in training and in the games."

He added: "I'm sure he will be a huge addition to the squad and has more than earned his contract here.

"A lot of people couldn't believe that he was allowed to leave Stoke City, but that has worked to our benefit because he looks like a star for the future."
