James McFadden is set for a move back to Everton, according to the Liverpool Echo, with the Scottish forward heading to Goodison Park today to work out the finer details of a move.

McFadden has been a free agent since the striker was released by Birmingham at the end of last season, with continuing injury problems part of why he didn’t clock up many appearances at the club.

Everton are one of many clubs to express an interest in McFadden, and the Toffees are hoping to set up a deal by the end of the week with the 28-year-old.

And the Liverpool Echo claims that McFadden completed a medical at Everton’s training ground, edging the Scotland international even closer to a move.

It was thought that Wolves were targeting the star, with some reports speculating that he might sign for the club before they took on Liverpool on September 24th.

But McFadden didn’t make the move before, or after, the Liverpool match up, and now Everton look likely to sign their third new face for the season.
