Steve Bruce is hopeful Benjani Mwaruwari will soon be unveiled as a Sunderland player despite the transfer deadline having passed.

The Black Cats manager believes all the paperwork had been submitted in time ahead of the 5pm deadline and is optimistic the Manchester City striker is heading for the Stadium of Light.

Bruce told ESPN: "I think we've lodged everything it in time, we've done everything we possibly can and I'm convinced we had everything in in time."

It has been a busy day for the Black Cats who captured Tottenham defender Alan Hutton on loan until the end of the season.

Striker David Healy, meanwhile joined Coca-Cola Championship side Ipswich on loan until the end of the season.

He will team up with former Sunderland manager Roy Keane and Daryl Murphy, who also signed for the Tractor Boys earlier on Monday.

Nyron Nosworthy also left the Stadium of Light for Sheffield United, where he will spend the rest of the season on loan.
