Former Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood is considering an offer to take over at Kilmarnock.

Calderwood has held talks with chairman Michael Johnston in the wake of the departure of Jim Jefferies on Monday. The ex-Dunfermline boss could now take charge in time for Saturday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League visit of Motherwell.

Calderwood, who has been out of work since leaving Aberdeen in May, told the Scottish Daily Express: "I have had a meeting with Kilmarnock and they have offered me the manager's position."

He added: "The talks were very positive and I have a lot of things to think about. Kilmarnock want a quick decision and I have promised to give them an answer.

"If I am going to take the job, I will be taking training on Friday and the match with Motherwell on Saturday."

Johnston has also spoken with Queen of the South manager Gordon Chisholm and former Motherwell boss Tommy McLean, while George Burley was reported to be in the frame.
