Chelsea are reportedly considering an audacious bid to sign Micah Richards from Premier league rivals Manchester City.

According to the People newspaper, Carlo Ancelotti is a keen admirer of the 21-year-old defender. The reports claims that he may favour a move away from the Eastland club, to kick-start his faltering career.

Micah Richards had been recently overlooked by Fabio Capello for England’s game against Brazil, subsequently offering Luke Young a place instead which he later turned down. Instead Richards starred for Stuart Pearce’s U-21 side against Portugal that he also captained.

The report suggest Chelsea are ready to offer Manchester City £12 million for the player who is also being linked with a move to Aston villa.

Chelsea may need some reinforcements to their squad when key players, such as Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, and Salmon Kalou, depart for the African nations cup in January.

Richards recently stated his desire to fight for his place at Man City, following a string of inconsistent performances so far this season. Team-mate Pablo Zabaleta is now Mark Hughes’ preferred choice at right back.

Richards still has a burning desire to play at next summer’s world cup, and a move away from City may improve his chances.

After the Under-21 game against Portugal, Richards told the TIMES: I was quite disheartened when I didn’t get the call,”

“Obviously Glen Johnson has been flying, Wes Brown plays Champions League football for Manchester United and that is hard.

But he [Capello] decided to call Luke Young and he turned it down. It is still my dream to go to the World Cup.”

“I have still got plenty of time. It is just about getting another chance.”
