Manchester City have reportedly entered the race to sign French international Franck Ribery after Mark Hughes flew to Munich last week for preliminary talks.
The Eastlands side are thought to be willing to meet the £60 million asking price from the German, a fee likely to put off other Premier League teams who have been tracking the highly-rated attacking midfielder.
Chelsea and
Manchester United were just two clubs linked with Ribery, who was expected to join Real Madrid in the coming summer as part of the deal that saw Arjen Robben join Bayern.
However,
City believe they have the transfer power to sway things there way, and are willing to offer Ribery £200,000-a-week to seal the move to England.
Meanwhile, Hughes is also waiting for Brazilian midfielder
Robinho to return to fitness before making a decision on his future.
The samba star has been the subject of huge transfer speculation over the previous months, with Barcelona officials expected to hold talks with City representatives next week over a possible loan move to Spain.
"Until the clubs announce something then we have to just wait and see what happens," said Robinho.
