Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson is determined to reach the heights he hit under Sven-Goran Eriksson - and achieve his goals amongst the stars at Eastlands.

After a season plagued by a hip injury, the young man dubbed ‘the new Steven Gerrard’ is working hard to prove himself all over again.

With City buying new players, like Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz, and being linked with many others, Johnson could find his work cut out re-establishing himself in the City first team.

But despite his injury problems, he has not lost faith in his ability and says: “I’m confident I can get back to where I was before the injury.

“Obviously new players are coming in, world class players, but that can only be good for the club – and good for players like me who are working with them on a daily basis. You can only improve.

Stephen Ireland is one player who has shown what you can achieve with hard work and dedication, and that’s what I intend to do.

“It’s great working with these top class players and I feel the sky is the limit for us now. With the resources we’ve got and the players we’ve bought, we’ve got to be looking at the Champions League next season.

“I’ve been working hard to get myself fit again, and I want to be part of what’s sure to be an exciting future for Manchester City.”
