Burnley manager Owen Coyle is eyeing a club record bid for Middlesbrough’s England Under 21 winger Adam Johnson.
Johnson, who has recently turned down a new contract with relegated
Boro, is valued at around £5 million despite the fact that he was used mainly as a substitute last term.
Coyle is reported to be unwilling to pay that amount for the player, but he could offer a reduced fee up front with additional payments based on appearances.
He added: “We are not in the habit of being messed around when it comes to transfer dealing. We made two good offers and the club turned us down, which is there prerogative.”
Jason Scotland
Burnley have already had a seven-figure bid for
Jason Scotland turned down by
Swansea, who believe the two clubs are ‘miles apart’ in their valuation of the prolific scorer.
Scotland, who cost the Welsh outfit just £25,000 a couple of years ago, scored 24 goals last term to take his tally to over 50 in the last two seasons.
The Trinidad and Tobago international finished last season as the Championship’s second highest goalscorer, behind
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, as Swansea narrowly missed out on the play-offs.
