Veteran striker Rodney Jack sent last season´s runners-up Wigan crashing out of the Carling Cup as Crewe beat the Premiership side 2-0 at Gresty Road in the second round. The 34-year-old St Vincent striker drilled in at the near post four minutes before the interval to score a first goal in his second spell with the club. And while Paul Jewell´s side featured summer signings Denny Landzaat and Kevin Kilbane and substitute Emile Heskey, they were unable to save themselves as the League One Railwaymen held firm and Nicky Maynard secured the win with a late second.
