Michael Dawson believes it is plain to see why Tottenham fans are so desperate for Harry Redknapp to snub the England job and remain at White Hart Lane.

Redknapp is the overwhelming favourite to replace Fabio Capello as England boss after the Italian's shock resignation last week. Dawson has watched from close quarters how the 64-year-old former Portsmouth boss has transformed the club from relegation candidates to title contenders within just over three years - and understands why the fans want their manager to stay put.

"I think they realise what he has done since he came in," Dawson said. "We were in a bad situation, we were in a bad position in the league table, and the players - a lot of whom are here now - were playing below par."
