Sylvain Distin has revealed he's in talks with Everton over an extension to his contract at Goodison Park.

The French defender has a wealth of Barclays Premier League experience from his time with Manchester City and Portsmouth, and is reportedly holding out for a two-year deal on Merseyside.

However, it's claimed the Toffees have only come to the table with a one-year offer, meaning negotiations are still needed between the two parties.

"We have started talks and I am encouraged by that," Distin told the Daily Express.

"It's going well, quite positive. The club has one of the best atmospheres in the dressing room."

Signed for £5 million in 2009, the players contract is due to expire in the summer, and Distin is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club as quickly as January.

AN ever present in the league this season, manager David Moyes will be keen to avoid a situation where the player leaves the club on a free transfer.
