Burnley secured promotion into the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United in Monday's Coca-Cola Championship play-off final.

Wade Elliott lit up Wembley with a superb 13th-minute curler as the Clarets made it to the top flight for the first time since 1976.

United were therefore condemned to a third season in the Championship, two years after they were relegated amid the controversy of the Carlos Tevez affair.

The Blades will point to two penalty shouts turned down by referee Mike Dean, whose appointment was criticised by manager Kevin Blackwell in the build-up to the game, and finished with 10 men when Dean sent off young striker Jamie Ward for handball, his second bookable offence.
