Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann will not be returning to the Bundesliga with Schalke next season according to skysports.com.
The 41-year-old former Germany international stopper came out of retirement mid-way through the 2010/11 campaign, acting as cover during the Gunners' apparent injury crisis.
Arsene Wenger offered Lehmann a short-term contract that saw him return to the Emirates Stadium in January, where he made one appearance for Arsenal in a 3-1 victory away at Blackpool.
The brief spell in the Gunners goal convinced Lehmann that he could still cut it at the top, and was reportedly considering a one-year deal with Schalke - the club where his career first began.
However, after initially considering an offer for the goalkeeping stalwart, Schalke coach Ralf Ragnick confirmed that he would be sticking with the club’s current crop of goalkeepers, rather than moving for the ex-Arsenal star.
"We will be working with Ralf Fahrmann, Mathias Schober and Lars Unnerstall in pre-season," Ragnick told German newspaper Bild.
"Getting another goalkeeper would be unsustainable from a sporting and financial standpoint."
