Rio Ferdinand has admitted an earlier-than-expected call to arms this summer provided Manchester United with the jolt required to rediscover their best form.Irritated by successive failures on Premiership and European fronts and concerned about the rising standards of Arsenal and Chelsea, manager Sir Alex Ferguson hauled United off their summer holidays before the end of June - and a 100% winning record in all competitions with no goals conceded suggests Ferguson´s strategy has worked."Everyone was saying they were upset about coming in early but we are professionals and we know we weren´t good enough last season," said Ferdinand. "If it meant coming in early in order to change it, that is what we had to do. It was a jerk to say, ´listen, we have to make sure we rectify what happened last season´. We deserved it because we didn´t do well enough last year."
