Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he rushed Ruud van Nistelrooy back from his Achilles injury too quickly. The prolific Dutchman has come under fire this week for his failure to find the net in the six games since his return to action during the Champions League defeat to AC Milan. While accepting van Nistelrooy was short of match practice, Ferguson was determined to have his main predator on the field for the last-16 clash. The move backfired badly as United eventually crashed to a 2-0 aggregate defeat, and Ferguson now accepts he probably made a mistake, telling the Manchester Evening News: "It was too early. He was probably a couple of weeks away from a comeback. But when you are playing AC Milan and you think of Ruud´s goalscoring record in Europe, we had no option really."
