Arsenal are being linked with another bid for Italian international Federico Marchetti.
The Cagliari stopper has been the subject of interest from three Premier League clubs, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger one of those interested in bringing the goalkeeper to England.
27-year-old Marchetti's stock rose over the summer, taking advantage of an injury to Gianluigi Buffon to become the Italian No.1 during their ill-fated World Cup campaign in South Africa.
A product of the Torino youth academy, the keeper spent three years with the club after making his debut in 2002 before moving to Serie 'B' side AlbinoLeffe. Cagliari spotted the potential, and signed the player in 2009 after a successful loan stint.
The Rossoblu have admitted to interest from Arsenal, Fulham and Aston Villa, with President Massimo Cellino revealing that the Italian side will only sell for the right price.
“Arsenal, Fulham and Aston Villa have tabled bids in the past, but the deal won’t go through because no club is willing to pay the right price for our asset.”
Wenger's attempts to sign Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer appear to have fallen through after the Craven Cottage club turned down another offer for the Australian keeper, and with time running out in the transfer window the Frenchman has been forced to consider his options.
A fee in the region of £12 million is thought to be needed for the north London club to land Marchetti, a figure that Arsenal are unlikely to pay. Negotiations would be needed to bring the stopper to the Emirates, but with options limited Wenger might have to make another move for the Serie 'A' stopper.
