Portsmouth caretaker manager Paul Hart was left to rue the penalty award which he felt cost his side victory at Stoke.
After a dreadfully poor first 75 minutes Niko Kranjcar had put Pompey ahead but three minutes later Glen Johnson was harshly adjudged to have handled and James Beattie equalised from the spot. The Stoke striker scored a close-range header to put the hosts ahead only for Hermann Hreidarsson to snatch a 2-2 draw in injury-time when his shot deflected off Ryan Shawcross and beat goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen.
"I think we were unfortunate not to win. We scored a very good goal, had weathered the storm and defended like Trojans," said Hart, who has taken four points from his two matches in charge having taken temporary control after the departure of Tony Adams.
"But we didn't have time to get into a defensive shape to defend before the penalty, which wasn't a penalty, simple as that.
"Johnson has leant [towards the ball] but his hands are nowhere near.
"When you are faced with a decision that you feel isn't quite the right one it knocks you back a bit and I think we were still reeling from that decision (when they conceded the second goal)."
Hart admitted the game had not been a classic until the goals started going in but felt his side had performed well.
"I think David James has had three shots all game to save but this is a very difficult place to come," he added.
"We knew what it was going to be like but I thought our centre-backs and full-backs were fantastic and we worked hard to get on the ball."
