Gary Hooper's first-half strike gave Celtic a 1-0 victory over Dundee United at Tannadice to cut the gap behind Clydesdale Bank Premier league leaders Rangers to four points.

The former Scunthorpe striker pounced in the 12th minute, taking a James Forrest pass inside the United box before drilling the ball low past Dusan Pernis.

Pernis then made a good save from Forrest to prevent the visitors adding to their lead, but despite a dull second half it was a deserved win for the Hoops to keep the pressure on the champions.
