Joe Gallagher is in a unique position to assess the credentials of the Premier League new boys as he served time with all three clubs.

The 54-year-old is best remembered for spending a decade with Birmingham City between 1972 and 1981 before being transferred to local rivals Wolves for £350,000.

He enjoyed less happy times at Molineux before moving off to West Ham United within 12 month,s and finally ending his career at Burnley between 1983 and 1987.

Over 400 games for all three clubs leaves Gallagher well qualified to pass opinion on how he thinks they will fare this term as all three bid to survive.

Hull and Stoke City proved last year that it can be done and the aforementioned duo along with the likes of Portsmouth, Wigan and Bolton will all be looking over their shoulders to see who is brought in this summer.

And all three clubs mean business as they have shattered their respective transfer records. Burnley have shelled out over £3m for Steve Fletcher from Hibernian, whilst Wolves have landed Kevin Doyle for £6.5m from Reading.

Birmingham have landed Ecuadorian striker Christian Benitez from Santos Laguna for a fee believed to be in the region of £9m, and look set for a further spree.

All of which has whetted the appetite of Gallagher, who spoke exclusively to Givemefootball’s Ian Clarkson ahead of the current campaign.

Don’t miss his verdict later here on Givemefootball.
