Bolton manager Gary Megson has assured long-serving full back Nicky Hunt he still has a future at the club.
Hunt has been recalled from a loan spell at Birmingham where he spent a couple of months after finding himself down the pecking order following the arrival of Gretar Steinsson from AZ Alkmaar last January.
Megson said: "Nicky has never been out of the picture. He went to Birmingham purely and simply because he wanted to play some games."
He added: "Reserve matches are not the same when you have been in the first team.
"The opportunity came for him to go down there but we had the option to recall him with 24 hours notice.
"We have done that because the squad has taken bit of hit through injuries and suspensions."
Megson is debating whether to make an improved bid for West Brom midfielder James Morrison after their initial £3million offer was rejected.
However the Bolton boss would like to revert to a free and open transfer market instead being restricted to sorting out deals in January and the summer months.
He said: "We know the players we would like to bring in but the fact you have a window when you can do business throughout the season is an absolute nonsense.
"However they came up with that idea, I would like to know the reasoning. It just does not seem to help anyone, certainly not those who are in need of the most help."
