West Brom keeper Dean Kiely has signed a new contract that will keep him with the Baggies until the summer of 2010.
Kiely, whose current contract expires this summer, has put pen to paper on a 12-month deal. The veteran player was a key member of the Albion side that gained promotion from the Coca-Cola Championship at the end of last season.
But he has had to be content with being number two since the arrival of Scott Carson from Liverpool after a loan spell with Aston Villa last season.
Baggies boss Tony Mowbray has been impressed with the commitment and professionalism shown by Kiely despite his lack of first-team football during the current campaign.
He has worked closely with Carson and is one of the few Albion players with a lot of Premier League experience, along with the likes of defender Paul Robinson and captain Jonathan Greening.
Mowbray has continued to keep faith with Carson as his first choice despite a couple of high-profile blunders in recent weeks.
The 23-year-old allowed a shot from Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor to slip under his body in a 2-1 defeat three weeks ago.
Then, in midweek, Carson dropped a corner from Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs and presented Carlos Tevez with a simple chance for the second goal in his side's 5-0 win.
Mowbray said: "Scott is a player who long before he came here was in the England side, which shows how highly he was rated. He knows there is still room to improve and he needs my support right now."
