Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has not ruled out a move for Liverpool midfielder Dirk Kuyt, less than 24 hours after Javier Mascherano admitted he wants to play for the Italians.
Inter manager Rafael Benitez is keen to raid his former club for a number of players he brought to Anfield during his reign.
Mascherano was a signing from West Ham United during Benitez’ time on Merseyside and he has made it clear he intends to make him an Inter player.
Yesterday Mascherano publicaly made known his desire to join the European Champions but Kuyt is likely to be harder to pursuade.
The Dutchman is enjoying his stay in Liverpool and has become somewhat of a cult hero so it remains unknown whether he would want to leave.
Moratti told Sky Italia: “We shouldn’t necessarily be always looking for star players, but functional ones. We’ll start with what we have, the group of players that have done well.
“There is a different coach, maybe slightly different from last year, but first and foremost he wants to keep the good players. Then we will start thinking about the team’s true needs,” he added.
Hodgson has been busy planning who he will spend the £25 million he gets from Mascherano’s transfer on – with Luke Young one likely addition.
