Liverpool are being linked with Slovakia captain Marek Hamsik – a player they missed out on two years ago.
The 23-year-old is currently plying his trade at Napoli, and caught the eye of Rafa Benitez in 2008, but opted to remain in Italy.
Reports suggest that Roy Hodgson may be prepared to revive his predecessor's interest in the midfielder, but he is likely to hit a stumbling block when it comes to the asking price.
Brescia president Gino Corioni – who sold Hamsik to Napoli three years ago – believes that his Napoli counterpart recently turned down a substantial offer for the former Slovan Bratislava ace.
He told TuttoNapoli.net: "Today [Hamsik] is worth approximately €30-50 million.
"Other teams could have purchased him, but I had promised him to Napoli.
"A side allegedly made a €30 million offer for the player, but the [Napoli] president responded by saying he would not have sold him for €50 million.
"He is the best player in the world without the ball at his feet because he always goes into the right positions. He has the gift of being able to read the play, which is why he doesn't run all day."
Hamsik – who was bought by Corioni for just £100,000 in 2004 – has scored 30 goals in a century of games for Napoli, and has also been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea.
