Juventus have admitted that Liverpool are interested in midfielder Christian Poulsen, after he was left out of the Italians’ Europa League qualifier against Irish side Shamrock Rovers.
Poulsen was a part of the Denmark team which was disappointing at the World Cup, being eliminated at the group stage.
The Reds, however, were sufficiently impressed by what they saw of the 30-year-old and have made him top of their list to replace Inter Milan-bound Javier Mascherano.
Juve’s general director Giuseppe Marcotta admitted Liverpool are interested but has dismissed claims he was left out of the squad due to this.
Marcotta said: “Liverpool have shown interest in Poulsen. But the fact that he did not play in this game (against Shamrock) is only due to a technical decision.”
Mascherano look certain to be re-joining former boss Rafael Benitez in Milan and will cost around £25 million, which will give Roy Hodgson scope to bring in a number of players.
Poulsen will be relatively cheap, due to his age, while Luke Young, Carlos Salcido and Wayne Bridge could all join him – leaving Hodgson with leftover change.
