Rafael Benitez is the latest Premier League manager thought to be watching Italian youngster Sebastian Giovinco.

The 22-year-old was recently linked with both Arsenal and West Ham, but now Liverpool are thought to be monitoring his progress and contemplating a possible move.

The whizz-kid is yet to tie down a firm starting place at club side Juventus, appearing just seven times for the Serie A outfit so far this season. This lack of first team football could open the door to the Anfield club, who are looking to strengthen in midfield and could raise cash, if the rumours are to be believed, with a reported £30 million sale of Javier Mascherano to Barcelona.

The slight midfielder stands at just 5ft 4in tall, although small players such as Juninho have succeeded in the top flight before.

Regarded as the hottest prospect in Italian football, Juve fans will not want to see their homegrown talent leave for English shores. So highly rated by the fans, he is regarded as the next Alessandro Del Piero.

Giovinco came to prominence in Italy during a loan spell at club side Empoli, and it was during his time there that Calgllari coach Davide Ballardini hailed him as a future star.

“He has to be patient at the start and I believe Giovinco is Juve’s answer to Milan’s Ronaldinho.

“I saw Giovinco last year at Empoli and I may be crazy, but he is just as good as Lionel Messi.
