Liverpool will make a shock move for Roman Pavlyuchenko in January which could see Kop flop Ryan Babel move in the opposite direction.

Manager Rafa Benitez is desperate to add more firepower to his strike force in January to try and lessen then burden put on Fernando Torres.

The Liverpool boss has become increasingly frustrated with Babel’s performance’s and is thought to be finally ready to offload the attacking midfielder.

Pavlyuchenko has endured an equally tough time at Spurs since his £13.8million move to White Hart Lane just over 15 months ago and it is reported that Benitez is said to be a long-time admirer of the Russian striker.

However, due to Liverpool's dire financial situation Spurs hold the key to any potential deal between the two clubs.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp must now decide whether to cash in on Pavlyuchenko and use the money to sign other players or take a gamble and swap him with Babel.
