Liverpool are thought to be preparing a bid for Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici as back up for Pepe Reina, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Australian goalkeeper has impressed Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez who's side crashed out of the FA Cup last night to Reading in extra time.

However, Federici knows that that if he was to move to Anfield he would be back-up keeper to Pepe Reina and would only have limited first team action.

In discussing a potential move to Anfield the player's father, Tony Federici, said: "I spoke to Adam and his agent has said he was aware that there had been some contact.

"There is some substance to it, but I don't know how keen Reading would be to let him go given he is their first-choice keeper.

"Adam has always wanted to play with one of the top four or five clubs. We'll all know more after Thursday."

Reading having reportedly slapped a £2million price tag on the 24-year-old who has made over 40 appearances for The Royals.
