Rafael Benitez is on the verge of landing future Iceland star Kristjan Gauti Emilsson.

The 16-year-old centre back has had trials with both Manchester United and Rangers, but the Daily Mail reports that Liverpool have offered a contract to the wonderkid.

The defender currently plays for Icelandic champions FH Hafnarfjordur, and is reported to be a Liverpool fan. The prospect of a move to Anfield is a 'dream come true' for the player.

The news of a Liverpool move first broke on Icelandic website fotboli.net, who also linked Dutch giants Ajax with Emilsson. His heart is set on Merseyside however.

"This offer came I could not refuse it. There are excelent conditions there and I think I will be able to become a great footballer at the club."

His FH coach, Heimir Gudjonsson, has no doubts that he would be able to make the grade for the Reds.

"It is not often that you see sixteen-year boy who is as good as him. I'm certain that he can meet all the demands of playing for Liverpool. "
