It has been reported today that Ruud van Nistelrooy is prepared to turndown offers from Arsenal and Tottenham to sign for Liverpool in January.

The former Manchester United star has played little first team football this season and may seek a move away from the Benebau to bolster his chances of playing in next summer’s World Cup for Holland.

Nistelrooy has been forced down the pecking order at Madrid since the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Kaka in the summer.

However, Liverpool are now set to make their move for the Dutchman in January to try and increase their attacking options and turn their season around.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is desperate to add to his strike force with Fernando Torres struggling to overcome an injury and Andrei Voronin failing to make an impact for the Reds.

Despite recent interest from Arsenal and Tottenham it is thought that the 33-year-old has told his advisors that he would prefer a move back to the north west of England.
