Manchester United and Arsenal will compete for the signing of Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia in the summer transfer window, it has been claimed.
The 24-year-old has made 18 appearances for Benfica this season and has impressed with a number of cultured displays both domestically and in Europe.
According to AS, both Manchester United and Arsenal are keen on Garcia, and have been monitoring his progress ever since he left Real Madrid in 2009.
The Spaniard moved to the Estadio da Luz from the Santiago Bernabeu for a fee in the region of £5 million and has flourised during his stint in Portugal.
So much so that two of the Premier League's most high profile clubs are now being linked with move for his signature, although Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger will reportedly have to pay £15 million to capture Garcia.
Both Ferguson and Wenger have been linked with numerous midfielders having seen their respective squads suffer significant losses last summer.
Arsenal sold both Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas, while Manchester United were struck by the retirement of Old Trafford legend Paul Scholes.
The 37-year-old has since returned to the fold for United, although will hang up his boots once more at the end of the season.
