Manchester united manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly preparing to make a move for Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik.

The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, as a replacement for Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, who are expected to play increasingly, diminished roles.

Hamsik was one of the major reasons behind Slovakia’s qualification for the 2010 World Cup.

The 6ft midfielder plays in a central attacking role, who can also play a box-to-box game thanks to his physical qualities.

The Slovakian was snapped up by Brescia from Slovan Bratislava and after scoring ten goals during season2006/2008, he was transferred to Napoli.

Now at Maradona’s former team, Hamsik has taken the mantle of leader at the Italian club and has kept up his goal-scoring record, having scored seven in 12 appearances this season.

Valued at an estimated €15-20 million, a move for Hamsik during the January transfer window may prove to be a bargain for United, as his value could increase once he showcases his talents at next’s summers World Cup.
